Maul Peak

Maul Peak is an asymmetrical two player board game where one player controls a giant guardian creature and the other must defend Maul Peak with their clan of grizzly bears. Use order cards to maneuver your side into combat and defeat your enemy. A sequel to Skulk Hollow, Maul Peak is a standalone game, but heroes and guardians can be mixed between both games.

My Thoughts

  • Tons of game to explore with 4 guardians and 6 winter beasts to play as.
  • Unique win conditions for the guardians keep Maul Peak from just being straightforward combat.
  • Even more content with Skulk Hollow and the solo adventure, Runes & Ruins.
  • Excellent organization with a functional insert and tuck boxes for each guardian and hero, making setup extra smooth.
  • Quality detailed components from screen printing on tokens to the giant unique wooden guardian meeples.
  • Player boards are very informative, listing setup and actions for that player.
  • Very much appreciated having reference cards for the opponent, as in an asymmetrical game they have different actions and abilities.
  • Strong world-building and great illustrations expand the World of Børe.
  • Actions had thematic connections that put me into the world of the game. Things like damaging guardian body parts took away associated actions or that some attacks from the giant guardians couldn’t hit the tiny heroes standing directly below them in their space.
  • Skulk Hollow was already on my want to play list, and now I want the game more than ever.
