River Wild

River Wild is a solo puzzle card game from the co-designer of Sprawlopolis and Circle the Wagons. Direct the flow of the river to construct lands protecting the wildlife. Construct more lands and satisfy goals as best as possible to achieve a high score. River Wild comes in a small wallet, a specialty of Button Shy games.

My Thoughts

  • Enjoyable casual solitaire card game that can be played to relax and pass the time.
  • Packaging is super portable, can leave in a desk at work or tuck it inside a purse.
  • Game play is slightly less portability due to the fairly large play surface required.
  • Not as much rules versatility as other Button Shy solo games. There are no difficulty levels or setup variations (without the expansion).
  • The Wildscapes expansion alters the thought process behind playing cards. Typically completing a protected land is good, but now you draw from the Wildscapes deck instead of the normal deck. Situations may occur where you may want to delay completing a protected land right away.
  • Adds the needed variety to the base game with standard land features that didn’t exist on base cards, as well as new special abilities.
